
The full-size GLOCK 17 frame and the compact GLOCK 19 slide have joined forces to produce the ideal pistol for all conditions and all situations. I know some people prefer the longer slide even with an optic as it feels smoother, but others have said that a shorter slide is an advantage because you have a shorter cycle time and the dot snaps back on target faster (if you have good grip). The Glock 19X is basically a centaur-like crossbreed that pairs a Glock 17 grip with a Glock 19 slide and barrel. Although the sight radius won't matter with an optic, there are still differences in cycle time, balance and perceived recoil between the 3 slide lengths. However, I'm kind of stumped as to the ideal barrel length for carry optics. For that reason I'm leaning towards purchasing a new gun rather than an optic-cut slide for my 34. It offers a few advantages over the 17, not to mention holster compatibility with the 19 and a more balanced feel, which is subjective, but lots of folks feel that way, including myself. It's a more significant difference than I had expected. If you are looking at which option to go with starting out, absolutely the G45 or 45 MOS is the way to go. It seemed to me that the new gen 5 trigger is quite a bit nicer than the gen 4.
